Drakerim

Race: Unknown

Domains: Magick

Ethos

Knowledge is power, perhaps the greatest power of all. Those who esteem knowledge above all else revere Drakerim, who tended to the Flame of Knowledge that lights the future for all of Orn. He is most often depicted as an ancient human clad in ornate robes of blue and silver.

History/Relationships

Scholars speculate that Drakerim has walked the lands of Orn on many occasions and in many guises. His first such appearance was as the Human soldier Kreilos during the Age of Wonders. Posing as his own mortal son, Drakerim sowed the seeds of arcane magick in the realms of men. He is also said to have appeared as the Elven wizard Geddimus Blackthorn, performing deeds of equal greatness before departing from Orn once again.

As one of the Ageless Ones, Drakerim had ages-old relationships with many of the other Immortals. It is also said that the other Immortals of magic, Banekeril, Muralakrum, and Secronus (known collectively as the Forsynteril), owed him allegiance, although what influence he exerted over them is unknown. Curiously, Drakerim also had long-standing alliances with Arimir and Thrinik, although the nature of his friendship with them is anyone’s guess. The only immortal specifically opposed to Drakerim was Ressik, who considered the Keeper of the Flame to be an obstacle to his perfect order.

Since the appearance of the immortal Thareon on Third's Femest of Arathost, 5,730 NB, scholars have spent years gathering new information on what happened to the immortal Drakerim. Most of what they now speculate comes from the firsthand accounts of the adventurers of Jastrey, which make for dubious claims at best. However, many Keepers and Seekers of Thareon have lent credence to scholars’ speculations.

Current conjecture holds that at the time of the shattering, the immortals Drakerim and Espidrel devoted most of their power to keeping Orn from being completely destroyed. It is believed that over the intervening centuries Drakerim wove a spell to try and restore the shards, watched over by the immortal Espidrel. Preceding the appearance of the immortal Thareon, Jastreyans tell of seeing visions in the River of Ages of the immortal Secronus stabbing Drakerim even as the mortal Thalenir Lestral attempted to intervene.

The immortal Drakerim has neither been heard from or seen since these visions, and many believe that his essence joined with that of Thalenir Lestral, becoming the immortal Thareon. The fact that the Keepers of Thareon are former devotees of Drakerim, and Thareon’s position on the Forsyntheril seems to support this conjecture.

Dogma

Knowledge is a powerful tool in the hands of those who can wield it. Teach those who wish to learn. Nurture the spark of magic wherever you find it. Seek out new insights and catalog them for the future. Never allow the ignorant to destroy that which they do not understand.

Followers and Temples

While many followers of Drakerim now follow Thareon, there are still some who continue to serve the Flame of Knowledge. Whether Drakerim still hears them in some fashion, or whether Thareon watches over them in his stead is unknown. They are well-regarded as teachers and counselors, and can be found performing any duty that serves in the collection and/or dissemination of knowledge.

Followers of Drakerim rarely erect buildings to serve exclusively as temples, instead devoting their resources to the construction and operation of schools and libraries. Areas of reverence are usually little more than simple shrines within these structures, with services considered secondary to study.

Older temples of Drakerim can be found in ruins throughout Orn, echoing a very different form of reverence than is found in modern times. These structures are little more than circles of twelve robed statues, indistinguishable from each other. Whatever mysterious rites may have been performed at these shrines so long ago have since been lost to the sands of time.
