Effects
Effects define what abilities do. The level of an ability is determined first by its effect, then adjusted by any modifiers. Combat abilities are further adjusted by their triggers.
| Name | Level | Effect Type | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Absorb Drain | 4 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Drain damage effect and regain a number of hits equal to the damage that would have be inflicted. |
| Absorb Fire | 4 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Fire damage effect and regain a number of hits equal to the damage that would have be inflicted. |
| Absorb Ice | 4 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Ice damage effect and regain a number of hits equal to the damage that would have be inflicted. |
| Absorb Prime | 4 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Prime damage effect and regain a number of hits equal to the damage that would have be inflicted. |
| Absorb Shock | 4 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Shock damage effect and regain a number of hits equal to the damage that would have be inflicted. |
| Absorb Tox | 4 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Tox damage effect and regain a number of hits equal to the damage that would have be inflicted. |
| Deflect | 3 | Combat, Defensive | You can block a single attack that cannot normally be blocked, including attacks with the Pierce modifier or that call Pierce Damage, Disarm, Push, or Ruin. Deflect abilities can also be used to counter abilities with the Burst modifier if the attack originates in front of the player, or abilities with the Spray modifier or the Twin modifier so long as none of the packets or attacks hit the player. |
| Dodge | 10 | Combat, Defensive | Dodge abilities can be used to negate any melee attack, packet, Burst, Pierce, Spray, or Twin. The attack is treated as though it missed. You may not Dodge if your mobility is hindered in any way, such as when you are Confined (Pin, Slow, Snare, Stop), unconscious (Subdued, Slain, Sleep), Dragging another character, or have a Maimed leg. |
| Reduce | 3 | Combat, Defensive | You reduce the amount of a single non-critical damage effect to one. |
| Reflect | 9 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single packet or Gaze attack and cause it to affect the user instead. The user may not avoid or block an attack redirected in this way, but countering and immunity apply normally. The attack counts as using the same delivery method (packet or Gaze) for this purpose. |
| Resist Drain | 1 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Drain damage effect. |
| Resist Fire | 1 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Fire damage effect. |
| Resist Ice | 1 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Ice damage effect. |
| Resist Prime | 1 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Prime damage effect. |
| Resist Shock | 1 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Shock damage effect. |
| Resist Tox | 1 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single Tox damage effect. |
| Seek | 6 | Combat, Defensive | You see through a concealment (Feign, Hide, Sneak, or Vanish), Meld, or Blink effect on a character you point at when the ability is called. The effect itself does not end, but you may perceive the concealed or Blinking character normally. You may only Seek when you first observe a particular effect out of play. Using Seek does not interrupt other activities, such as concealment, rest, or Pin. |
| Withstand | 5 | Combat, Defensive | You counter a single non-Critical Damage Type (Hits, Drain, Fire, Ice, Pierce, Prime, Shock, or Tox). |
